Shiatsu is rooted in a long lineage of Japanese healing known to calm an overactive sympathetic nervous system. Shiatsu is known to improve circulation, relieve stiff muscles, alleviate stress and anxiety though various stretches, rocking, acupressure and massage techniques. It is based on Chinese Medicine theory, in which continuous rhythmic pressure by the practitioner’s palms, elbows, fingers, thumbs and feet are used to balance your meridians (lines of energy throughout your body). Because Shiatsu addresses stagnation and imbalance of energy within the body, there are a wide variety of medical and emotional issues that can improve through Shiatsu treatments.
Shiatsu massages are done with the patient fully clothed (in loose, comfortable clothes; no jeans, please) and uses no oils.
